Retinal vs Retinol

Both retinol and retinal are forms of vitamin A that can be effective in reducing the appearance of wrinkles. However, there are some key differences between the two:

  • Potency: Retinal is more potent than retinol. This means that it converts to retinoic acid (the active form of vitamin A) more quickly and can deliver results faster.
  • Irritation: Retinol is generally less irritating than retinal. This is because it needs to be converted to retinoic acid before it can start working. Retinal, on the other hand, is already closer to the active form, so it can irritate some people’s skin.

Here’s a quick breakdown to help you decide which is right for you:

  • Choose retinol if: You have sensitive skin, or you’re new to using retinoids.
  • Choose retinal if: You have more mature skin and want to see results faster, and your skin can tolerate stronger ingredients.
